Numeracy Week Beginning 01.02.10

In this weeks numeracy we will be learning how to add and take away numbers that are not a 10. For example for 23+ 12 = the children will learn to use a number square to jump 10 (i.e. move down a space) and count 2 (right 2 spaces) landing on the answer, 35. Similarly adding 23 would be jump 20 (move  down two spaces) and count 3 (answer 46).

Children need to recognise that 12 is made up of a 10 and 2 units. They have done this before but may need some reminding.

Later in the week we will be looking at 3D shapes and examining the shapes made when we flatten out boxes into a net. If you want to practice this at home this would be useful.

Any questions please ask.

Many thanks.
