Don't forget to keep practising with the clock they made over Easter and to keep discussing time.

Also now may be a good time to revise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables to help with what children are doing in the classroom.

Many thanks,

Mr Lewis

Spellings Week Beginning 19th April 2010

This weeks spellings use the silent 'h'. These should get you started on discussing time and money.

It is really helpful if you can let your child experience handling money for real, either having some to spend for themselves in a shop or just to look at and play with. Help them to understand what they can afford with their money and whether they need change.

For time we have provided a clock for your child to make in order to help them with the time problems. Again it is helpful if they can be looking at different clocks and watches both digital and analogue as well as relating time to their daily lives (e.g. What time do we get up? What time will lunch be? How long will it take to get to our destination?).

Have a happy and relaxing Easter with lots of playing too :-)!!!

Mr Lewis

Spellings

There are no spellings for over the easter holidays. For example for 23+ 12 = the children will learn to use a number square to jump 10 (i.e. move down a space) and count 2 (right 2 spaces) landing on the answer, 35. Similarly adding 23 would be jump 20 (move down two spaces) and count 3 (answer 46).

Children need to recognise that 12 is made up of a 10 and 2 units. They have done this before but may need some reminding.

Later in the week we will be looking at 3D shapes and examining the shapes made when we flatten out boxes into a net. If you want to practice this at home this would be useful.

Any questions please ask.

Many thanks.

Publish Post

Mr Lewis
